Ive got a regular ps2 and what i want to do is to use this program to copy a savegame from my pc to the memory card but i cant get the program to load once i copied the folders to the usb memory stick? What files exactly do i need and should they be in the ROOT of the memstick?uLaunchELF can run fine on a non-modded console, I know because I helped a friend set it up. The question is, do you have a way to start Homebrew applications like uLaunchELF?
What version is your PS2? If you don't know check. You need to read up on exploiting your PS2 first, which means learning how you get a program like uLaunchELF onto your Memory Card. I could write more, but not knowing what type of PS2 you have really limits the conversation. The version is SCPH-5004. Im trying to follow a guide i found and at this part im stuck.6) Load uLaunchELF on your PS2, browse to your USB flash (under mass:/). Locate the folder you just copied, then press R1 and select?Copy?
To copy the entire folder. The problem is I'm not 100% sure if you are able to run the exploit or not. Someone else would have to comment on this for me.The link I provided above says a SCPH-50004 is a version 11. If this site is correct in determining the version number, then there is a good chance your PS2 will not work with the exploit. The other option is of course running uLaunchELF off a CD or DVD, but again this comes down to what you have or don't have. Do you have swap magic? Damn i was afraid my version would be a non working one But if i buy a dvd or cd would it work that way you think? And no sorry dont own swap magic. If you can't run the exploit, then your next options are: 1) Purchase the swap magic CD/DVD with the slide card tool or install a flip-top lid. 2) You could also purchase something like this, but I can't recommend it since I have never tried it, and I think uLaunchELF is better anyway.
3) Of course, getting a mod-chip installed would be better then any of these methods.I still don't know 100% if you can or can't run the exploit. Hopefully someone can reply and give some advice on when exactly Sony implemented the exploit fix, which prevents it from working.
There is also the option of using codebreaker ver 7.1 or later and a compatible USB stick, or flash card with usb adapter, to boot SMS, then from SMS you can use the option to run the boot.elf from the memory card, which is ulaunch. The problem would be getting the boot.elf onto the memory card as SMS only lets you run ulaunch from the MC.Getting the boot.elf onto the memory card could be accomplished by two ways other than using swap magic.1. Booting a burnt copy of a ulaunch CD or DVD and copy ulaunch from a USB stick (This method will require you to hold down the DVD lid open/closed sensor so it doesn't think the DVD lid is open. Swap magic will also require this. Version 11 PS2s are supposed to be easy to do this on with some folded up paper to jam in the sensor and a small stick or rod to hold the tape in place)- after using codebreaker to launch SMS, you can then swap in the codebreaker disk out for the burnt ulaunch disk and configure SMS's browser setting to exit to the browser. (The reason for this method is to stop spinning the codebreaker disc. This may not happen as I don't have a disk to test at the moment.) You should now see a PS2 CD or DVD in the PS2s browser, depending which you burnt to, boot the CD and ulaunch should start. You can then use ulaunch to copy the boot.elf (aka ulaunch) from the USB drive to the MC0:/BADATA-SYSTEM directory.
If you have a PAL PS2 the location would be MC0:/BEDATA-SYSTEM, JAP PS2 is different location too, can't recall at the moment. Now you can reset the console and run codebreaker, which will boot SMS if you have the USB drive in the PS2 (with the correct software from codebreakers). Then configure SMS's browser setting to exit to the MC0:/BADATA-SYSTEM directory. Then exit SMS. Ulaunch should now boot and you can now run any homebrew you want to copy to you MC or USB device.Possibly easier method!2. Use codebreaker disc to copy a save that has ulaunch in it from the USB stick to your memory card.
This method requires no disc swapping or burning of CD DVDs, but requires you to learn how to use tools like PS2 savebuilder to put ulaunch into the PS2 save file. I will not go into that as there are many tutorials, probably here and on the web to explain it. Once the save is on the MC you can run the Codebreaker disc with the USB stick in the PS2 and use the same steps listed above to configure SMS to exit to the MC0:/BADATA-SYSTEM directory. If you already have a Codebreaker disc and USB stick, you'll be able to play boot homebrew without swapping, buying a Swap Magic disc, or Mod chip.
