Hello,I would like to start by saying: I fully understand the dangers of flashing bios with low power due to the possibility of losing power and having a bricked mobo.
I'm fairly confident in my AC Adapters ability to remain plugged into the wall while the bios is flashed.I need to flash the bios for my Gateway LT41P laptop. I am trying to install Linux on the computer as it is useless with windows (Very slow). I am unable to boot from USB to install Linux unless I flash to the latest version of the bios. The reason for this is that the latest version of the bios adds the option to 'legacy boot' which I'm 99% sure is the problem. Now for the problem I am faced with. This laptops battery is toast and will not charge.

The battery check in the flashing utility detects that the battery is below 15% and I am unable to flash. I'm really hoping that this can be bypassed as a new battery for this computer is $70 and at that point I might as well just buy a Raspberry Pi.Thank you!PS: I have tried contacting Gateway on this issue and they want nothing to do with me because the laptop is no longer covered through the warranty.
You can boot a DOS USB in UEFI mode. When you create the bootable drive with Rufus, select 'MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI'. You can then boot the USB without legacy mode.I did a little more reading and there is a command line switch for the winflash utility to force the flash and ignore errorsWarning - make sure that you absolutely have the correct BIOS for that machine or it may 'brick' it. Don't blame me if the computer never boots again. Tinkering with BIOS is not recommended most of the time.Run the.exe file from Gateway with the /forceit switch from a command line.Example:WinFlash.exe /forceit. That machine should seriously boot a Rufus UEFI flash drive.I know it's really irritating that it doesn't.I've looked online for a battery and cheapest I could find was $50 on eBay.
But honestly I don't want a battery, this computer is going to be plugged in 24/7 and used for Kodi only. I would just buy it and return it after flashing if I could find a local store that has it, but I guess this battery is really obscure.I suppose the last thing I will try doing is using a different WinFlash utility and trying the forceit option. Once I find a different WinFlash utility how do I make it so that it works with the gateway bios rather than the one it comes with?edit: Do I just replace the WinFlash.exe in with the new WinFlash.exe?.
Re: BIOS update from INSYDE Flash today. Power the computer back on. As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button repeatedly (like tap-tap-tap) before any logo appears. This should open a HP Startup Menu - Choose/press F10 to open the BIOS configuration.
